A collection of photographs by Edward Guariglia Jr., and text by his subject. A story of a Williamsburg family, parents and 6 children, who lived in one room, throughout the 20th century. A “Tree Grows in Brooklyn” that still grows in Brooklyn. The show portrays the life of James W. Beatty. Never ever homeless, but never a night with heat or hot water. (Still to this day.) A story of physical and sexual abuse, hunger, and the daily rituals needed for survival. The ironic twist is that James is still alive, almost 80 years old and still lives on No. 9 street and Bedford Ave. Apartments on his block sell for almost 2 million dollars.
